For the record, they are not together.

It’s been just over a month since Yellowstone star Kevin Costner settled his divorce from his second wife, handbag designer Christine Baumgartner, after nearly 20 years of marriage, but the internet has wasted no time in envisioning a new relationship for the actor.

Recently rumors began swirling that Costner was now dating Reese Witherspoon, citing supposed inside sources who claimed to duo had, “been calling and texting on the pretence [sic] of finding the perfect script, but it’s becoming almost a daily occurrence,” per Australian publication New Idea.

While there seems to have been little other basis for speculation, the rumors nonetheless quickly picked up traction online. So much so that a representative for the The Morning Show and Legally Blonde actress has now issued a resounding denial of the relationship.

“This story is completely fabricated and not true,” Witherspoon’s representative told Page Six today.

Witherspoon herself is fresh from a divorce—she announced the end of her 12 year marriage to Jim Toth in March 2023—and her potential love life has remained a source of scrutiny in the ensuing months. She was briefly rumored to be dating Tom Brady, but representatives for both celebrities stated that the duo had never met.

Costner, meanwhile reached “an amicable and mutually agreed upon resolution,” to his divorce from Baumgartner in late September, following several hearings that offered a window into the behind the scenes drama on the actor’s hit show, Yellowstone. Among the revelations, Costner testified that for the series’s fifth season, the production had offered him “less money than previous seasons, there were issues with the creative…” He added that he “will probably go to court over,” his payment for the season.

The initial news of Costner’s divorce came just days before it was revealed that Yellowstone would be ending after its fifth season wraps up. It’s not currently clear whether the actor will appear in the second half of the fifth season, which is now scheduled to air in November 2024.
