What Is ‘Fire Country’ About?
Fire Country star and cocreator Max Thieriot inspired the series through his own experiences growing up in wildfire territory in Northern California.
“It certainly started from a purely firefighting CalFire standpoint and what that would look like, but the inmate firefighter program was always going to be something that would be involved in the show,” Max told Variety in October 2022. “Because of growing up in Northern California, it was normal, everyday life for me, seeing conservation camp crews work alongside the highway and on the fire lines driving around. Then I realized folks that aren’t from up there, specifically, didn’t really know this was a thing a few years ago.”
In front of the camera, Max portrays Bode, a convict who works out of an imprisoned fire camp.
During season 3, Bode is released from prison and he adjusts back to the real world while working as a firefighter at Station 42 in Edgewater, California.

And so I’m like, ‘You guys, congratulations, you got your back nine. Now let’s start talking about ideas for new extensions.’ They’ve already come up with some great ones.”
