Yellowstone: 1923 season two filming has begun with a new but recognisable face joining its cast.
Yellowstone: 1923 is to welcome a Dexter alum to the prequel as shooting of the new episodes starts earlier than initially anticipated.
Season one of 1923, which came out in December 2022, went down a storm with Paramount+ subscribers as legends Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren joined the Dutton family universe.
Taking on the roles of Jacob and Cara Dutton, the prequel delves further into the history of John Dutton’s (played by Kevin Costner), great-great-grand-uncle and aunt.
Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take too long for the spin-off to get the green light for a second season and now it’s been announced that the cast is to get a l ittle bigger.
Actress Jennifer Carpenter will be joining 1923 for season two, taking on the role of Mamie Fossett who is described as someone who is “ahead of her time”, with her “willingness to issue warrants at will and take down anyone who opposes the Marshals”.
Subscribers will best remember Carpenter for portraying Debra Morgan, the adoptive sister of serial killer Dexter Morgan (Michael C Hall), in Showtime’s Dexter for seven years.
She worked for Miami Metro Homicide so while she was investigating killers to get justice, her brother was doing it for his own Dark Passenger.
Carpenter was in the entire run of Dexter, reprising her role in the reboot New Blood with actress Molly Brown to portray Debra in the upcoming prequel Original Sin.
Apart from Dexter, the star has also had roles in The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Quarantine, A Mouthful Of Air and The Enemy Within.
The 44-year-old is also going to star in a sci-fi thriller called Control Group which is now in pre-production.
Its synopsis reads: “A scientist who, after losing his wife, replicates her in the hope of continuing the perfect life they started together.
“Complications soon arise when the derivative wife develops desires of her own.”
Filming for 1923, on the other hand, wasn’t expected to begin until July 2024 but the cast and crew are already shooting the new episodes.
It is believed that filming will run through September so it is unlikely that 1923 will be back before the end of the year, despite the early start.
There have been some significant changes behind the scenes, however, with filming moving away from Butte, Montana, where the first outing was shot.
Instead, 1923 season two, which will consist of eight episodes, is being shot at ATX Studios which is located in Austin, Texas.
