Yellowstone and It Ends With Us star Brandon Sklenar has landed his next movie role in a modern day western.

Titled The Rescue, shooting on the film is expected to begin this summer with Old Henry director Potsy Ponciroli at the helm (via Deadline).

John Fusco has written the screenplay but as of writing the synopsis is being kept under wraps. All we know is that The Rescue is being described as “a modern day western, in which a rodeo cowboy’s skills are put to the test outside the arena”.

Sklenar is best known for his role as Spencer Dutton in the Yellowstone prequel series 1923 in which he stars opposite Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren.

The series focuses on Yellowstone character John Dutton’s ancestors, following them as they fight to keep their land during the Prohibition era and the Great Depression in 1920s Montana.

Sklenar recently starred in the 2024 movie It Ends With Us opposite Blake Lively, playing Atlas Corrigan, the childhood sweetheart and eventual love interest of Lively’s character Lily Bloom.

Meanwhile, season two of 1923 is set to premiere on Paramount+ on February 23, with Sklenar having teased some details about the highly anticipated second outing.

Fans of the show will remember that at the end of season one, Spencer was separated from his wife Alexandra, leaving things up in the air for his character.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Sklenar told fans to expect a shift in tone now that the couple have parted ways.

“All I know about part two is that I’m certain there’s going to be a shift in the tone, just for Spencer and the show itself,” Sklenar said. “The stakes all around have been raised to a new level, and the pain and the guilt that he’s carrying into this next part is going to shape him into a version of himself that we haven’t seen yet.”
