Kevin Costner’s Yellowstone co-star has no clue about when the fifth season will resume filming. With Costner reportedly out of the picture, the series will film the second part of Season 5 without its lead star. Country singer Lainey Wilson, who joined the series in the first part of Season 5, shared that neither she nor co-star Kelly Reilly have any idea about what’s happening with Yellowstone.
Series creator Taylor Sheridan and Costner had a bad falling out over creative decisions, which saw the Waterworld actor’s lawyers getting involved. The ego clash has led to Costner reportedly exiting the show prematurely.
Yellowstone Star Has No Clue About What’s Happening With The Series
American country singer and songwriter Lainey Wilson was cast as singer Abby in Season 5 of the Paramount+ series, Yellowstone. The series also featured some of Wilson’s songs. When Fox News recently interviewed the singer during her recent appearance at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, she opened up about the current state of the series.
Wilson revealed that she was as clueless as the audience about the show and was still waiting to find out what would happen. She shared that she had contacted co-star Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth Dutton, to find out if she knew anything. However, Reilly too appeared to have no idea about the brewing Yellowstone drama. Wilson shared that she would be ready for the shoot whenever she got the call. Wilson told Fox News:
“I’m still waiting to find out what’s happening with Yellowstone. I have absolutely no clue. I did talk to [series star] Kelly Reilly the other day and, you know, we’ll see what happens. Once they give us the call — we’re there.”
The series has yet to begin the filming of the rest of the episodes of the finale season. The first part of Season 5 premiered in November 2022, and that is already an astounding mid-season gap for a series to have. While part of this gap was due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes of last year, another part is due to the internal conflicts within the series.
Yellowstone Creator And Lead Actor Clashed Over Creative Decisions
The feud between Taylor Sheridan and Kevin Costner has put a major dent in the otherwise perfect show. Costner and Sheridan reportedly did not see eye to eye on several of the creative decisions on the series. According to Puck News, the Dances with Wolves star had several demands to continue on the series, including a huge salary, fewer shooting schedules, and script revision rights.
Costner reportedly had a moral death clause in his contract which allowed him to dictate the manner of his death in the series. All these demands from the series lead did not sit well with Sheridan, who usually doesn’t allow others to interfere with his creative process. In an interview with THR, the Wind River director shared that he preferred to “tell his stories his way.”
Sheridan also shared in the interview that he always worked out his issues with Costner over the phone. However, once the lawyers involved, Sheridan revealed that things got out of hand and there were attempts to shift the blame to either side. Nevertheless, Sheridan hopes that Costner’s dream project Horizon will be a great movie.
Industry insider Matthew Belloni reported that Costner parted ways with the series before the finale. It surely has left a big hole in the series and the cast & crew have little clue on how to fill this hole.
