Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 12 is underway on this lovely (freezing cold) Sunday night. And while I won’t get into any material spoilers on the new episode, if you’re not caught up on Season 5 Part 2, you might want to scroll on through.
John Dutton is dead, murdered by a hit that was ordered by the cunning Sarah Atwood, who is now also dead after a targeted attack left her with a bullet in her head. Honestly, was a pretty badass moment and Sarah’s tenure on the show was fantastic. Portrayed by Dawn Olivieri (who you can also find in Taylor Sheridan’s 1883 and Lioness), she was one of the more complex and interesting characters.
Nevertheless, she’s responsible for the tragic death of John Dutton, one that Jimmy had no idea about… until now.
Of course, Jimmy is down in Texas working for the 6666’s Ranch alongside Taylor Sheridan’s character Travis. And I’m not gonna lie, it feels like Taylor always try to write Travis a little cooler than he should be. His dialogue always comes off a little corny to me, but either way, Rip gives him a call to break the news, and just doesn’t have the heart to tell Jimmy himself.
So Travis does, and in doing so, gives him a week off… but like a true cowboy, the kind of cowboy John Dutton taught him to be, Jimmy takes the weekend… but chokes up in the process. As to be expected…
And the reaction was absolutely heart-melting from the show’s loveable idiot. Jimmy, played by Jefferson White, has arguably has more character development than anybody in the entire series… from a lowly drug cook to professional ranch… he’s the unsung hero of the show. The kinda guy you always root for because his heart always seems to be in the right place.
And fans we’re in their feels when he found out about John:
Hi @_JeffersonWhite I’m sure you won’t see this, but the scene of Jimmy finding out that John passed away brought me to tears! It was beautiful! #YellowstoneTV

Will Jimmy Be Involved In The 6666s Spinoff?
Jefferson White sat down with us on the Whiskey Riff Raff podcast and explained everything he knows about the upcoming spinoff so far.
Here’s what he had to say:
“We filmed those Four Sixes sequences down at the Four Sixes, which is a real life, huge, working cattle ranch… one of the biggest in the country, one of the oldest in the country. After spending four years on the Yellowstone which is a fictional ranch, it was a real eye-opener to go down to the Sixes which is a real life, incredible, sort of goliath, cattle ranch.
As far as the spinoff goes, I don’t think you’ll be surprised that I, Jeff/Jimmy never have any idea what the fuck is going on, and any time I think I do, Taylor does something better and cooler than I ever could’ve imagined.
All I can say is that I hope… I’m incredibly grateful for the work we’ve gotten to do so far, incredibly proud… all I can say as an actor is job security is very rare and very precious so I wanna play this character as long as they’ll let me.
And we’ll find out together how much longer that is… anytime I think I know what’s best for this character or for this world, Taylor proves me wrong. He knows better than any of us.”
Needless to say, only time will tell, but based on the way we saw Jimmy leave the Yellowstone Ranch at the end of Season 4… and work down in Texas through Season 5, it sounds like Jimmy is going to be the star of his own show someday soon.
Stay tuned… with Taylor Sheridan involved, anything is possible.
