Yellowstone is coming to an end with the final episodes set to air from November 10. How many Yellowstone spin-offs will there be?
Yellowstone is one of the main staples on The Paramount Network and fans were heartbroken to learn the Western melodrama would be concluding without Kevin Costner at its helm. After a lengthy hiatus, part two of season five will be making its way to screens before the year is out.
Knowing the original Dutton story will be coming to an end soon, viewers are keen to find out more about how the legacy is being kept alive. The already popular prequels, 1883 and 1923, have proven how there is still an appetite for drama on the Dutton ranch.
The first spinoff, 1883, debuted in 2021 and it starred real-life husband and wife Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as James and Margaret Dutton. This was followed by 1923, which arrived in 2022.
The series stars Harrison Ford as Jacob Dutton, the brother of 1883’s James Dutton, and Helen Mirren as his wife, Cara. 1923 was renewed for a second season which should air in either late 2024 or early 2025.
Here is all you need to know about what is next for Taylor Sheridan and the Yellowstone universe.
When it came to light that Yellowstone would be ending in 2024, it was also announced another spin-off was in the works.
A prequel titled 1944 has been slated and it is likely to be set in the Second World War era.
Although no official details have been given yet, it is likely to answer an all-important question of who John Dutton’s (Kevin Costner) father is.
There have also been talks about a prequel set in the 1960s, bringing the total number of prequels to four.
Another series titled Madison has been rumoured although details have not been set in stone yet.
TV Line said it will “follow wealthy matriarch Stacy Clyburn and her family as they leave New York City and head to Montana in the wake of her husband and brother-in-law’s tragic deaths in a plane crash”.
Michelle Pfeiffer has reportedly been confirmed to star in the series, with filming having just started.
While some believe the project was originally titled 2024, others believe Madison will be an entirely new spin-off.
In June 2023, Sheridan told The Hollywood Reporter he has more plans in the pipeline.
He said: “[The prequels are] time capsules of life in Montana as a microcosm of the world as a whole.
“They’re big spectacles, and the more that you move into the modern era, the bigger that spectacle becomes. … As long as I do my job well, and people don’t bore of the genre, I think there will be enough for many more [prequels] — three or four.”
