Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 10 And Beyond Trailer Teases A H.o.m.i.c.i.d.e Investigation And A Full-On Dutton War

At long last, our national TV nightmare is finally over. That’s right, folks. After a nearly two-year hiatus, Yellowstone is back with new episodes, and if the Season 5, Part 2 premiere is an indication of what’s to come, loads more drama, duels, and death await in the final five episodes.

In Season 5, Episode 9, of Taylor Sheridan’s hit Western drama, “Desire Is All You Need,” fans saw a life-altering event rattle both the state of Montana and the Dutton family.

After months of speculation surrounding Kevin Costner and his character John Dutton’s fate on the series, Yellowstone finally revealed that the Dutton patriarch was killed weeks after the events of Season 5, Episode 8. Though the investigation initially suggests he died by suicide, we later come to learn that Jamie’s (Wes Bentley) partner in crime Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri) put the deadly hit out on him. So now we’re left to wonder if she’ll get away with it…

While we’ll have to wait until Sunday, November 17 to see what Sarah and Jamie’s next moves are, and what Beth (Kelly Reilly), Kayce (Luke Grimes), Rip (Cole Hauser), and Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) have up their sleeves in terms of revenge, at least we have an eventful new teaser trailer from Paramount Network to analyze.

Ahead of Yellowstone Season 5, Episode 10, we’re breaking down the latest minute-long Season 5, Part 2 trailer frame by frame, so saddle up and get ready for one hell of a ride!

What’s In The Yellowstone Season 5, Episode 10 Preview?

Simply put, the preview for Yellowstone Season 5, Episode 10 (and the remainder of Season 5’s final five episodes) teases an all-out Dutton war.

The trailer opens with Sarah telling Jamie, “You’ve won, Jamie. The kingdom is yours,” but as Yellowstone fans (and Jamie) know, the Duttons don’t go down without a fight, so we have a feeling Sarah is in for a rude awakening as the second half of the season progresses.

We also see several shots of Beth and Rip finding comfort in each other’s arms, just as they did at the end of Episode 9. We see Jamie suggesting “the only option is to sacrifice the ranch.” And we see Kayce taking a more hands-on approach in wake of his father’s death.

At the start of the teaser, Kayce is calmly standing in what appears to be a hospital or morgue, but by the end of the preview, he has a medical examiner in a chokehold. Later on, we also catch a glimpse of Monica telling her son, “We cant let this take us from him, Tate” and Tate and Kayce sharing an emotion embrace, which suggests struggles for Kayce ahead.

While it’s clear that John’s biological son is taking his death hard, it appears he’s also struggling to fight back in the days following the tragedy, as evidenced by him telling Beth, “There’s not much we can do. The whole world is watching.” If there’s one thing Kayce and fans should know by now, it’s that Beth Dutton will always find a way to get what she wants. And right now, Jamie’s demise is at the top of her wish list.

After Beth tells Kayce, “There’s not much you can do about it. You leave Jamie to me,” Yellowstone cuts to a stunned Sarah watching a news report that says “Helena PD Lists Governor Dutton’s Death As A Homicide.” The Season 5, Part 2 premiere essentially assured Sarah that John’s death wouldn’t be seen as pre-meditated murder, nor would it have any ties back to her or Jamie, but the Duttons know their dad. And after learning that his building’s security footage was suspiciously cut mere minutes before his death, you can bet they’re going to look into it.

It seems as though Beth and Kayce are successfully on the road to revenge (and reclaiming the family legacy) with the homicide investigation, but that’s not to say the ranch won’t face new challenges of its own. Rip left ranch hands and the herd back at the 6666 to race home to Beth, and the teaser shows him furiously tossing a glass of alcohol into the fireplace and saying, “We’re in a real spot. Our heads are in the guillotine” during a concerned phone call. What’s wrong, Rip!? Aside from everything!?

As teased ahead of the Part 2 premiere, it appears the Duttons will find a familiar ally in Thomas Rainwater, who tells Beth “I’m available if you’d like help” in the teaser. Beth asks what he’d like in return for his services, and though we don’t hear his response, we do see him slitting his hand to draw blood, which suggests some sort of deal will be done in the future.

The teaser also shows Beth in a black dress, which could mean a service for John Dutton is coming. But once Beth navigates her early stages of grief, a clip of her saying “You having fun yet?” into her phone lets us know she’ll be back for blood. We see Sarah — who appears to be on the other end of Beth’s threatening call — place her phone on a kitchen counter and smash it with a hammer. So how long until her plan backfires? And will Jamie go down as collateral damage? (Sidenote: The teaser also shows Jamie undressing Sarah yet again, so although Jamie was shook by his dad’s death, it’s clear we haven’t seen the last of them as a duo just yet. Ugh.)

Speaking of Jamie, it looks like he’s about to get slapped in the face by Beth and visited by brother Kayce, who’s heard saying, “I can see it now. I know what to do” before marching into Jamie’s office and throwing him down on his desk. Later in the teaser, Kayce is also seen in Prison Break-esque incognito attire and appears to be concealing something (perhaps a gun) in his hoodie. Will he be headed for Jamie again? Or do more Yellowstone twists lie ahead?

Before the teaser concludes, Beth warns, “He will ruin this family’s name to save his own,” which points to Jamie once again. Despite his position of power, it seems Jamie may eventually come under question as the John Dutton investigation continues. He’s seen screaming into his phone in one scene and saying, “You’re treating me like I’m a suspect” in another. So, yeah. It’s not looking so good!

In the teaser’s final moments, Lloyd asks Rip, “So we getting in this fight?” A police officer breaks into a house at night. Carter (Finn Little) and a horse face off. And Kayce tells an out of frame individual, “You should be scared. I know everything.”

What exactly is everything? How does he find out? And what will be the consequences? That’s what Yellowstone will tackle over the course of its next five episodes. So fans won’t want to miss a moment of the Dutton drama.
