Everything we know about Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 – from the release date, plot, and cast updates, to its premiering on November 10, 2024.
The Yellowstone saga will soon be ending its run and the Dutton family headed by Kevin Costner’s John Dutton will soon be gone, once and for all. While the first part of season 5, which is in talks to be the final season for encompassing this Dutton family generation’s story, was already released in late 2022, the second part is waiting right around the corner to be released.
This upcoming remaining storyline of Yellowstone may have hit the screens sooner had it not been for Costner’s messy exit from the saga and the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Nonetheless, with his exit, a lot of speculation has been run around what would happen to his iconic character, considering how he was the prime head of this generation of the Dutton family.
Besides that, there have also been multiple other rumors regarding this forthcoming remaining part of season 5, including how this might not be the last season after all. That said, here’s all you need to know to clear your doubts about it all – be it about when the second part will be hitting the screens or simply to test how true the rumor mill surrounding the Western series is. Dig in!
When is Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 Hitting the Screens?
After an intensely prolonged wait that was speckled with quite a lot of offscreen drama, showrunner Taylor Sheridan has finally confirmed when the long-overdue second part of season 5 will be coming to the screens. As per exclusive confirmations, Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 will be premiering from November 10 (Sunday), 2024, onwards on Paramount+ at 8 pm EST.
As for outside of the US, this remaining saga will premiere on Paramount+ in Canada on November 10, the U.K. on November 11, and further down the month for Latin America, Brazil, and France. This upcoming part will continue the events that were previously presented in part one of this season, which was released nearly two years ago in November 2022.
Characters Returning in Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2
Good news for the die-hard fans, because it seems like the entire main cast from season 5 part 1 will be returning to the screens – presumably for the last time – for this remaining half of season 5. This includes all of John Dutton’s kids: Kelly Reilly‘s Beth, Luke Grimes‘ Kayce, Wes Bentley‘s Jamie, and Kayce’s wife, Kelsey Asbille‘s Monica.
Of course, that doesn’t change the fact that the sword is still hanging as low as ever over Kevin Costner‘s return, even though the actor confirmed earlier this year that he wouldn’t be returning (see @modernwest/X). This is legible because everyone is hoping John Dutton doesn’t just end up getting killed off mercilessly after so many efforts were put into building up his character arc.
Besides him, other characters expected to return from part 1 alongside the main cast include Cole Hauser‘s Rip, Gil Birmingham’s Chief Thomas Rainwater, Moses Brings Plenty’s Mo, Forrie J. Smith‘s Lloyd, Finn Little‘s Carter, Wendy Moniz’s Governor Lynelle Perry, and Jefferson White’s Jimmy.
Additionally, besides the actors who embodied the younger versions of the main cast, new talent is also expected to join the crew. This includes Kai Caster’s young cowboy Rowdy, Lainey Wilson’s musician Abby, Lilli Kai’s new assistant for Gov. Dutton, Clara Brewer, and 1883‘s Dawn Olivieri‘s Sarah Atwood – a Montana rookie and “corporate shark” who has linked herself to Jamie.
Plot Details of Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2: All We Know
According to the ideas the teaser trailers have given about the themes of this upcoming season, fans need to brace themselves for a lot of chaos, grit, and gory as the Dutton family goes into the final phases of its internal family conflict that has been building up since season 1. The power struggle between Jamie, Beth, and Kayce is most certain to ensue.
While Reilly’s Beth and Bentley’s Jamie are at each other’s throats yet again, this time around, the feud just may be concluded, with the only thing remaining to be seen is who ends up winning. Meanwhile, keeping in mind the previous turn of events in part 1 of this season, Costner’s John is at risk of being impeached following the actor’s unceremonious exit.
Of course, the lack of John Dutton could lead to a lot of political casualties since he was the governor of Montana when the season left off. But while that’s that, the family’s ranch is more at threat than ever before as a deadly disease will reportedly be threatening the Dutton family’s cattle & the wildlife of Montana, making this ranch-y saga even more dramatic than it already is.
Meanwhile, Hauser’s Rip is expected to lead the trip with the cattle to Texas while Jamie would seemingly continue with his scheme to commercialize the ranch, once and for all. All in all, the tide will be ostensibly high for this remaining part of the reported final season, and fans will inevitably have to pick a definite side once and for all.
Will Season 5 Part 2 be the Last Season of Yellowstone?
According to all the official reports we have been hearing till now, part 2 of season 5 is more than likely to be the final season of Yellowstone. With Kevin Costner out of the picture, the chances for the series continuing successfully with more seasons with someone else that’s not John Dutton leading the family seem to be low.
Nonetheless, recent reports from late August claimed that season 5 might as well not hold the concluding arc. As reported per Deadline, “negotiations are underway for a sixth season of the flagship drama to be headlined by Yellowstone standouts Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser.” At the same time, while the intention is to continue the story past season 5B, the deals are reportedly not done yet.
Backing up these claims is that the episodes of this upcoming part were not labeled as the saga’s final chapter when the teaser for its premiere date was unveiled in June. Additionally, Reilly and Hauser have reportedly been negotiating new deals for months, so there could be some truth to all of this. But until it gets confirmed, fans might as well take it with a pinch of salt.
Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 Trailer and Episodes
So far, this much-anticipated second part has earned itself quite a few teasers and trailers from Paramount. Initially, this started with vague teasers shared by the official @paramountco handle on Instagram. These teasers hinted at the violent bloodstorm that has been building up since season 1 and will presumably soon be following in the remaining arc as well.
But that’s not all. The most recent teaser trailer for season 5 part 2 was finally released in late August 2024 on YouTube to somewhat quench fans’ thirst about it all. And while it does open with Costner’s John Dutton talking about his family’s ranching-rich history, it also hinted at a lot more chaos to ensue, apparently even more so between the familiar ties themselves.
As for the episodes? Well, as of now, the confirmed number hasn’t been officially announced yet. As of this writing, the window of just the number of episodes this second part could hold begins from 6, with the number holding the chance to differ as per the requirement of however many episodes help in wrapping up the long-ongoing saga.
What the Official Cast Has to Say About Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2
With the release of this presumed concluding arc of Yellowstone right around the corner, the cast and crew have gotten candid on their take on how it all would end. While showrunner Taylor Sheridan seems to have “know[n] exactly how this ends” right from “day one, episode one,” Beth’s portrayer Kelly Reilly found out about it while filming season 1.
Wes Bentley recently confessed to Entertainment Weekly just what energy his Jamie would be seen channeling in this second part. “Jamie’s the most raw he’s ever been and the most vulnerable,” said Bentley, adding, “He’s the angriest he’s ever been.” Reilly, on the other hand, assured fans that John’s absence wouldn’t change much for Beth, saying, “It changes nothing as far as Beth’s desire to protect her family’s lineage. In fact, it becomes more urgent.”
As for the scripts? Well, the entire main cast seems to be all praise about it. In Reilly’s words, “The scripts were so good. So good.” Meanwhile, in Luke Grimes’ words about the series finale: “I couldn’t be happier. I think it’s a perfect ending for the show for every character. It’s just a testament to what a good writer Taylor is, and it’s a very, very profound, beautiful ending.”
Well, that might sting to Kevin Costner, but at least fans can expect to be left amazed with the season finale after the never-ending wait they had to go through.
Yellowstone Spin-offs: More to Come for the Dutton Family Saga?
As of this writing, the Yellowstone universe has earned itself two prequels – 1883 (2021) and 1923 (2022). Both of these series saw the Dutton ancestors’ journey west, with the former seeing more of them navigating through the Great Plains toward unclaimed frontiers and the latter showing the Duttons in the early 20th century west in the era of Prohibition, pandemics, and drought.
While 1883 was slated to have one season right from the beginning, 1923 – which features Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren in the lead – is set to receive its sequel season soon. After the strikes caused the never-ending delays, production on season 2 of 1923 was reported to have finally gone underway in September 2024.
Another prequel 1944 (working title) is reportedly under works to continue to expand this saga along with the contemporary spin-off series 2024. This latter one, however, was retitled in August to The Madison, and will reportedly star Michelle Pfeiffer in the themes of the storyline that is described as “a heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana.”
That said, fans need not be heartbroken even if season 5 part 2 does end up being the concluding arc for John Dutton III’s Western universe, for Taylor Sheridan has already cooked a hella lot more for fans to enjoy besides that.
