Yellowstone is currently in production for the final episodes of the beloved modern Western, and while fans are clamoring for any tidbit they can get, it turns out that the cast of the show already know how the show ends. In fact, in a new interview, series star Kelly Reilly says they’ve known all along.
Reilly spoke to TVLine in advance of the second half of Yellowstone’s Season 5, which is currently shooting in Montana. Though the British actress swears she doesn’t know specifically what the final episodes have in store for her character of Beth Dutton, she reveals that the entire cast has known the broad strokes of how the show ends for years.
“I mean, I know the ending of the show, which I’ve known for six years,” Reilly states. “We all knew what the ending would be. We’re going to film that this summer.”
As for Beth Dutton, whose story arc has been especially tempestuous over the seasons, Reilly says she has one specific wish for what the show’s ending brings for her character.
“Peace, I think,” she says, adding that it’s “as possible as it is for any of us. Peace requires some digging and some surrender and letting go of old pains and hurts.”
Beth Dutton has gone from fiercely independent to a happy relationship with Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) over the course of the show, and they have also taken in a young boy named Carter (Finn Little), forming an unlikely, but seemingly happy makeshift family unit. But lasting happiness has proven elusive for Beth amid her family’s drama, and Reilly says that might stay that way.
“I question potentially whether happiness is allowed,” she admits. “Over the seasons, we’ve been able to see where it might exist. But she’s taken out of it so quickly.”
Still, she remains hopeful.
“Maybe there’s a future where she’s not sort of yanked out of her happiness.”
The second half of Yellowstone Season 5 will begin airing on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 8PM ET on Paramount Network. Kevin Costner has revealed that he will not return to wrap the character of John Dutton.
