Kevin Costner is ramping up for the debut of his passion project, Horizon: An American Saga, at the Cannes Film Festival in May, but he recently took a moment to reflect on an important topic for fans: Will he be returning to Yellowstone?

As a refresher, Yellowstone has been on hiatus since January of 2023, when the prolonged SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes and behind-the-scenes turmoil delayed the return of season 5. Paramount Network has since confirmed the return of the series in November, but it is not clear if the patriarch of the Dut ton family, portrayed by Kevin, will be seen on screen again.

Kevin appeared at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where he received the Visionary Award (while sporting some distinctive new facial hair!). In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he discussed his potential involvement in the final episodes of Yellowstone. He explained, “I’d like to be able to do it, but we haven’t been able to…I thought I was going to make seven [seasons] but right now we’re at five. So how it works out—I hope it does—but they’ve got a lot of different shows going on. Maybe it will. Maybe this will circle back to me. If it does and I feel really comfortable with [it], I’d love to do it.”

The actor has imagined how the series might wrap up for John Dutton. He said, “Well, you know, he needs to be proactive in what happens, and I’ve kind of had my own fantasy how it might be, but that’s Taylor [Sheridan]’s thing. I said as much to him a while back. I had thoughts how it could happen, but we just have to see.”

Fans will have to stay tuned until the series returns in the fall.
