The soap hopper has news about his personal life.
Divorces happen not just in soaps but in real life, too. Case in point: Steve Burton, who currently plays Harris on Days of our Lives, but is best known for his run as Jason on General Hospital, and also, for playing Dylan on Young and the Restless, has some news related to his marriage.
Steve Burton: Final Decision
People reports that Burton and his former wife Sheree have finalized their divorce. According to court documents obtained by the long-running magazine, the couple will share joint legal and physical custody of their minor children.
Burton, who won his second Daytime Emmy for playing Y&R’s Dylan in 2017, is required to pay his former wife $12,500 a month in child support for their minor children until April 2024. At that point, the amount will be lowered to $10,000 a month.
There won’t be any spousal support. Both Burton and his former wife have waived it “now or at any time in the future, regardless of the unforeseen circumstances that may exist in the future.” Sheree is set to receive $50,000 as retroactive support.
Burton filing for divorce was first reported in the summer of 2022. The couple officially separated on March 1, 2022, citing irreconcilable differences. He and Sheree had been wed for more than 20 years. The couple met at GH back in the 1990s.
The actor broke the news to his fans in an Instagram story in May 2022 that he and his then-wife were apart. “Sheree and I are separated,” he said.
“I wanted to clear something up,” the ex-GH star wrote in an Instagram Story, adding, “Sheree and I are separated…She recently announced that she’s expecting her 4th child. The child is not mine. We are still co-parenting our three beautiful kids. We would appreciate privacy at this time. Much luv, Steve.”
Since that post, Sheree has announced on Instagram that she is expecting her fifth child. In October, she shared, “If you would have told me I was going to have 5 kids with 2 of them being born in my 40s I would have laughed and said you were crazy but God has a plan, and here I am and I couldn’t be happier or more grateful for my life and the people in it.
“These past 2+ years have been quite an experience and I’ve learned so much about myself,” Sheree continued. “I realized that I’m much stronger than I ever could have imagined and that change is a must for growth. I am far from perfect but I’m pretty proud of the person I am and continue to become. I would like to continue helping, supporting, encouraging and motivating women of all ages to dig deep, do the work from the inside out and live the life they are destined to live.”
As Burton did, Sheree is placing boundaries to ensure privacy. “I’m going to dial the personal posts back a bit to protect my children,” she concluded, “but will continue to be real and authentic, sharing bits of my life that might help or encourage someone else. I appreciate all the love and support I’ve received from so many of you. It means more than you will ever know.”
